Garena Free Fire: A beginner’s guide to the Kalahari map

Garena Free Fire’s Kalahari map has been with us for a few months now. It has been a great change of pace as well as scenery for those of us who are tired of the classic Bermuda map and are looking for a change, The new map perhaps takes its cues from PUBG Mobile’s Miramar map and features a desert setting. However, it does seem to be greener than its PUBG brethren as well as a lot smaller.

Not only that, but Kalahari also features some really unique locations such as a wrecked galleon, a submarine, an oil refinery and more. It also has a bunch of abandoned houses to loot if you prefer the old fashioned things. There are also a bunch of zip lines that criss-cross the map, making it easier for players to traverse. So it’s a pretty crazy map, to say the least.

If you seem to have a hard time winning in the new map, fret not as we've got your back. Here are some basic tips that should help you improve your chances of winning in Free Fire's Kalahari map.

Sniper rifles are your best friend

Just like Miramar, Kalahari has swathes of empty areas that are begging for a sniper. So find yourself a rifle like the Kar98 or an AWM, attach a nice scope, pick a good vantage point and wait. You may even consider the VSS, but its low damage may put you off.

Cover your head

While Kalahari may arguably offer more cover than Bermuda in the form of shrubs and palm trees, it’s not exactly a dense forest. So make sure you stay behind buildings and trees as much as possible. If all else fails, make sure you’re carrying Gloo Wall Grenades to create temporary cover.

Use the valleys and rocks for cover

As you may have noticed by now, cover is quite a vital part of Kalahar. You can look at the first point to know exactly why. A sure-fire way to get to cover is to use the natural rock formations to your advantage. The only problem is that you may have to go around these rocks if the circle moves and that could leave you wide open. Make sure you have a couple of Gloo Wall Grenades handy.

Don’t get greedy

With its open layout, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll manage to see a loot box just out in the open. If it’s out in the open, wouldn’t hurt to take a quick look right? WRONG! If you can see it out in the open, so can everyone else. Since it’s out in the open, there is no cover for you to hide behind and remember what we said about snipers?

Be patient

Kalahari seems to be a patient player’s map. Sure, you may drop in guns blazing, but sooner or later, you might find yourself outnumbered or outgunned. So consider dropping in a nice location towards the edge of the map, far from the flight path and gather your tools in relative peace. Thanks to the small size of the map, chances are the circle will be relatively close-by, so you won’t have to go far.
